Fuel costs account for 35%-40% of the total production cost in the glass industry. Glass manufacturers have traditionally relied on Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO), coal tar and natural gas as fuel sources for their glass furnaces. Pulverised petroleum coke is being used as a substitute for heavy fuel oil feedstock by glass manufacturers, giving substantial cost savings of 30%-50%.

Petroleum coke is pulverized into powder of 160-200 mesh and directly sprayed into the glass kiln for firing. Pulverised pet coke as a fuel is being used by manufacturers of float glass, processed glass, coloured glass, architectural glass, clear and coloured glass bottles used in food, alcohol, beverages, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and other industries.
